Andre Miripolsky’s keen understanding of pop imagery and energy launched a dynamic career that resulted in work with Elton John (the famous 1980 Concert in Central Park “Piano Keys” costume) and Bette Midler (album package/visual design for her 1982 worldwide “DeTour”), as well as Quincy Jones, The Rolling Stones, Gato Barbieri, Robin Williams, Beastie Boys, Cheap Trick, MTV, and “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. For thirty years, he has continued to explore and discover creative wonders in his Kingdom of Color. Miripolsky serves on the boards of the L.A. Art Alliance, the Downtown Artwalk, and the Hollywood Arts Council.

2012 – Mural: Pacific Mutual Building (Rising Realty Partners), L.A.Created the 15’ x 50’ Pershing Square Cityscape mural at 5th & Olive.

 

2012 - “Play Me, I’m Yours” Street Piano Project, Hollywood, Sponsored by the Hollywood Arts CouncilCreated the Miripolsky/Hollywood Art Piano, decorated in a mosaic of mirror tiles to best reflect the glamor of Hollywood. It graced the forecourt of the Egyptian Theatre. Hundreds of working pianos have been placed in public areas in major cities throughout the world for this project.

 

2012 – Mural: Urban Artscape at FIGat7thUrban Artscape is a community initiative of Arts Brookfield and the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk that brings students from South L.A. together with a professional artist to create a temporary mural.

 

2012 – Starline Tours, HollywoodCreated vinyl designs representing Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Downtown Los Angeles wrapping the citywide double-decker tour bus.

 

2012 – Red Line Tours, HollywoodCreated a commemorative collectors ticket series called “The Icons of Hollywood Architecture.

2011 – Artshare Gallery, “Downtown Legends” Art Show, Los AngelesOne of a group of five artists selected not only for their artistic merit, but also for their significant contributions to the downtown L.A. community.

 

2011 – Museum of Monterey at Custom House Plaza, “Wave Wall”Created a 275’ mural on the wood fence that wraps the museum. This is the largest public arts installation in Monterey County.

 

2011 – Museum of Monterey, “Monterey Historama”Created a 10’x55’ mural using relevant historical and iconic imagery from the Monterey County area. Mural was printed on vinyl and installed in the main exhibition hall of the museum.

2007 – Indianapolis Symphony OrchestraPerformance art piece: In exactly 36 minutes, surrounded by the 87-piece performing symphony orchestra, Miripolsky painted a 7 ft. x 28 ft. image depicting his interpretation of Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose Ballet.”

 

2006 – Bentley Prince StreetOne of the USA’s premiere carpet manufacturers licensed the phrase “ViVA L.A.” and produced an innovative line of broadloom and carpet tile.

 

2005 – Mattel ToysCreated one-of-a-kind “Art Barbie.”

 

2005 – Central City Association of L.A.Created a large 3-D wall sculpture depicting the exploding Downtown L.A. skyline. This image, coupled with his phrase “Viva L.A.,” brands the new and improved Downtown Los Angeles.

1997 through 2004 – NBC’s “The Tonight Show”Created a collection of huge scenic backdrops and floors for the guest bands segment of the show. Miripolsky was the first and only independent visual artist to be commissioned by the Tonight Show for a project of this scope in the show’s entire history.

 

1997 through 1999 – Absolut VodkaCreated image for “Absolut Miripolsky” billboard in San Francisco.

 

1996 – Absolut VodkaLive painting on the Absolut website called the “Human Ant Farm,” a real-time, online video series featuring artists creating new work. This was the first continuous, live, interactive Internet video broadcast.

1993 through 1994 – Turner International BroadcastingCreated an original artwork commissioned to coincide with the “First Festival of American Film Treasures” in St. Petersburg, Russia, and a subsequent six-city Russian tour of the MGM classics. Miripolsky joined both Ted Turner and Jane Fonda for those events in Russia.

 

1993 through 1999 – Directors Guild of America, Artists Rights FoundationCreated new branding for the foundation formed by Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Martin Scorsese.

 

1993 – “Fear No Art! A Crash Course in Reality”Produced/directed this very personal short film which tells of the 1984 automobile accident that sparked his spiritual rebirth. The multiple award-winning film has appeared at many festivals including the prestigious 1993 “Annual Visions of U.S. Video Competition” sponsored by Sony and the American Film Institute.

Also, in 1988, created the poster for the Monterey Film Festival, and in 1984, created the entire “Fear No Art” collection, including the now iconic phrase. The Artist In JapanAfter working extensively in Japan in the mid-’80s, Miripolsky became one of the country’s most beloved contemporary American artists. His critically acclaimed projects include his national gala premiere at the Spiral Hall Multimedia Gallery in Tokyo; a multimillion dollar ad campaign for a series of Tokyo FM radio stations; album covers, video and tour designs for musical legend Tatsuro Yamashita and pop singer Yoko Oginome; and custom stage sets for Japan’s “Gold Disc Show” for four consecutive years (equivalent to America’s Grammy Awards). The artist often contributes his time and talent to non-profit organizations. In addition to the following projects, he has worked for several years with Pro-Peace, AIDS Project Los Angeles, and Artists for Disarmament.

 

2011 – PAWS/LA, Downtown Los AngelesPainted a mural at the entrance welcoming visitors. Non-profit PAWS/LA assists low-income seniors and people disabled by a life-threatening illness by providing services to help them keep and care for their pets.

2004 through 2005 – ChabadRebranded the look and identity of the Jewish Chabad’s “L’Chaim to Life” internationally broadcast telethon.

2002 – Community of Angels Public Arts ProgramSponsored by Roy Disney’s Shamrock Holding Co., Miripolsky’s “Angel Under Wraps” was completely adorned in various colors of gaffer’s tape. Over one hundred decorated art angels graced the Los Angeles cityscape.

 

2001 – KCRW-FM 89.9, Los AngelesContributed the use of his world-famous graphic slogan, “Fear No Art,” to represent the public radio station during their summer fundraising campaign.

1991 – United Nations “Artists and Performers Against Apartheid” SymposiumContributed a key work depicting “Culture for Freedom and Democracy.” Portrait of the Artist as a Young ManMiripolsky was born in Paris, France, to a father who was Cultural Advisor for the American Foreign Service and also an artist. The family lived in a series of exotic landscapes including Iran, Thailand, Austria, France, Indonesia and Korea. Miripolsky was immersed in and surrounded by art since his youth. By age eight he was working with oils and by age ten he sold his first painting to the American Ambassador to Indonesia. After graduating High School in Seoul, Korea, he headed to the California Institute of the Arts. He left after two years to pursue a classical acting career before finally centering his creative axis around the canvas and all things visual.
